We are five weeks away from the official launch of my new book, The Rhythm of Rest. The excitement is building around this release! Guess what?
Due to the topic, excitement and expectation of the book, my publisher has asked to release a workbook and an e-course to go along with the book! Wow! In addition to those important resources, I am also releasing a special limited edition podcast called The Rhythm of Rest. (You can subscribe to the new podcast here.)
Lastly, if you haven’t pre-ordered your copy of the Rhythm of Rest, you can do so here. Let’s get to today’s devotional! You can succeed this September!
Blessed [is] the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and [that] spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (KJV)
I am the salt of the earth. I am the light of this world. Jesus said it so I believe it. I am a carrier of the Glory of God. Today, I will experience the extreme goodness of God. Today, I make myself available for God to show His goodness to others through me. Today, I am increasing in influence. Today, I will see the goodness of God in my life! Today, something good is going to happen to me so I expect miracles.
Good Morning,
Happy Labor Day! Welcome to September! This weekend, God was stirring me up concerning this month. He began to download into my heart different principles to share with you so that you can have a successful September. I had originally planned to share something else. I scrapped those plans and I am so excited for you to read today’s devotional. (Make sure you share it with someone else too!)
First, let’s define terms. To succeed is to achieve a desired aim or result, to triumph, to turn out well, and to be successful. To be successful means to be victorious, prosperous, flourishing, and thriving. Yes, 2025 is still your year to thrive.
I have six keys or principles to help you be successful this month. At times, I’m a fan of alliteration. All of these keys start with “S.” The first key is to be specific.
What do you want to accomplish this month? What you need to improve in this month? What do you need to increase in this month? Often, because of the demands of life and being pulled in many different directions, we live aimlessly. We are doing good things, but not making much progress. If you want to go forward, you need to specific.
Yesterday, as I was sharing with our Faith Family, I used two examples to help them be specific. A lot of people say that they want to be closer to God. Well, what does that mean to them? That is not a specific goal. If they mean, I need to be more focused when I pray. That’s a specific goal. Or, if they mean I need to be more consistent in reading and studying my Bible. That’s a specific goal. They could also mean that they need to attend church more regularly. Those are specific goals that will help them grow closer to God.
Others may say, I need to increase financially. Well, what does that mean? To make one penny more in September is technically increasing. We have to learn to be specific so we can direct our faith, attention, and efforts effectively.
The second key is see clearly. What do you see? I encourage you to pray the Ephesians 1 prayer over yourself regularly. It’s a prayer that will increase your spiritual perception and insight. Another question I have for you today is, where are you looking? Sometimes we can miss what God is doing because we are looking in the wrong place. In the above passage from Jeremiah 17, we see trusting in God causes them to look in the right place and experience the right things.
When we discuss what we see, it brings us to our third key which is knowing your source. In September, you need to remember that God is your source. No matter what goes on in the world around you, God is your source (1 Cor 8:6 (AMPC)) and He will supply all your needs (Phil 4:19).
Be specific, see clearly, know your source. What’s next? Sow where you want to go.
When discussing giving financially, notice what the Apostle Paul said, “Don't be misled--you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. 8 Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. 9 So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone--especially to those in the family of faith.” (Galatians 6:7-10 NLT)
Yes, the context is financial giving. However, Paul expanded the context when he said whatever you sow or plant. According to the Scripture, what is the justice of God? You will always harvest what you plant or what you sow. As see in the NKJV it says sow instead of plant. Whatever you sow you will reap. If you sow to the sinful nature (the works of the flesh in Galatians 5), you will reap decay. If you sow to the Spirit, (living by the fruit of the Spirit), you will reap everlasting life. (Now, remember, everlasting life is more than a quantity of life. It is also a quality of life that begins when you are born again.)
Today and this week, take some time to think about where do you want to sow. In addition to finances, think about who can you be a blessing to, where can you volunteer, who can you help, who can you call, who can you encourage. We are called to be a blessing. Who can you help succeed this September?
Let’s continue. What’s next? Speed. Follow the rhythm and leading of the Spirit. I discuss this more in depth in the Rhythm of Rest. The Holy Spirit has a rhythm for our life. There are times where He will lead us to speed up, slow down, take a break, or do more. Remember, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit was sent to lead us and guide us. (John 16:13). Allow the Holy Spirit to set the speed for your life and lead you into times of productivity and rest.
The last “s” principle for today is say. As we covered in August, your words are vitally important. As James 3 teaches, we can steer our life with our words. Proverbs 18:21 (NLT) says, “The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”
You have to learn to consistently identify with the promises of God through the words of your mouth. If you continually speak negatively and against God’s promises, you will reap the negative consequences. However, if you continually speak the way we covered in August, you reap the positive harvest of consequences. (Catch up on those newsletters here.)
This is going to be a great month for you. This is a month of success for you. You will succeed this September as you put these principles into action.
