Overcoming The Past

As Christians, we are not supposed to throw away our confidence. We are to embrace it and employ it to get supernatural results. However, sometimes we throw it away or lose it along the way. Today, let's overcome our past and regain our confidence.

Today’s Devotional 📖

Good Morning,

How’s your confidence today? Let’s face it. Sometimes, we lose our confidence. Or, as we shared last week, sometimes we accidentally throw it away. Or, maybe, due to an unforeseen circumstance it hurts to get our hopes up and become confident again.

Sometimes past experiences, our own mistakes, the betrayal of others, or myriads of other reasons can cause us to doubt God’s plan for our life. We may find it hard to hope. Hard to dream. It seems difficult to be confident about anything good coming to our life. It’s common to feel this way. However, today it is time to overcome our past and regain our confidence.

Do not allow your past to dictate your future. I’m not denying what happened to you. I’m not belittling your experience. However, I am telling you that your past is not greater than the future God has for you. Today, make a decision to stop allowing your past to call the shots in your life.

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose.” By context, we know that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who pray in the Spirit (verses 26-27), love Him, and are called according to His purpose.

God is able to take all that has happened in your life - the great, the good, the mundane, the bad, the ugly, the hot mess, and the horrible - and make it work for your good. He didn’t cause the bad, ugly, hot mess, and horrible things, but He is an expert at making those things work out for your good. Since that is the case, we should face our future with confidence. We should live confident knowing God is causing all things to work together for our good.

Hebrews 10:35 (NKJV) says, “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.” The confidence of the Christian produces great rewards. As we covered, this isn’t just any confidence. This is a supernatural confidence rooted in a relationship with God and an understanding of His grace and mercy.

The confidence described here can be defined as boldness in action and speech. Our confidence is not based on our natural ability, but our faith in God, His Word, His character, and our understanding of His marvelous mercy and amazing grace. Our communication should communicate our confidence. We should speak boldly and positively about our day because we know our God, His character, His grace, and His mercy.

Our positive, bold speech is a vital part of our confidence. If you aren’t speaking positive, Scriptural, bold things about your life and day, it is time to start. Today, make a decision to stop talking about your life based on your past. Talk about you life based on God’s promises with great hope for your future. As you regularly talk about these things through faith filled confessions and affirmations, you will regain your confidence.

In today’s podcast, I lead you in even more confessions and affirmations from a book I use to build my faith and confidence. Will you stream the podcast and say it along with me? Stream today’s podcast devotional on YouTube, Apple Podcast or Spotify and pre-order your copy of the Rhythm of Rest.
