Today’s Scripture 🍞

After this, Jesus crossed over to the far side of the Sea of Galilee, also known as the Sea of Tiberias. 2 A huge crowd kept following him wherever he went, because they saw his miraculous signs as he healed the sick. 3 Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. 4 (It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) 5 Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, "Where can we buy bread to feed all these people?" 6 He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. 7 Philip replied, "Even if we worked for months, we wouldn't have enough money to feed them!" 8 Then Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up. 9 "There's a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with this huge crowd?" 10 "Tell everyone to sit down," Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000.) 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted. 12 After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples, "Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted." 13 So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.

Today’s Devotional 📖

Good Morning,

It’s the end of October. For many, the scariest thing about today is not Halloween, a costume, or a horror movie. It’s economic uncertainty due to layoffs and government shut downs. In today’s devotional, I want to help you move from fear to faith so that you can make November a month to remember. Let’s dive in!

First, our Imagine Conference at Faith Christian Center starts next Friday! With everything going on in our world, I believe this conference is divinely timed! The conference is free and I would love to see you there. If you cannot make it in person, stream every session online. Register today so that I know you’re coming!

There are five things I want to highlight from our Scripture passage above that will help you have the right perspective for November.

  1. Jesus Stretched Phillip’s Faith

The words “testing Phillip” are also translated to stretch Phillip’s faith. God never tests or tempts us with evil. The Apostle James emphatically taught that in his epistle. God does not cause a bad situation to teach you something. The devil, hard times and hardships are not the teachers of the church. The Holy Spirit and the Word of God are our teachers. As we grow in God, we need to stretch our faith. During this time, make a decision to double down in faith, not shrink back in fear.

  1. Identify What You Have

In a situation of seemingly not enough, Jesus asked them what they had. This month, I want you to reflect on what you do have. A lot of times, people despise what they have and miss the wisdom and provision of God.

  1. Give Thanks For What You Have - Don’t Despise What You Have

When you despise what you have, you won’t steward it well. The Apostle’s brought the young boy’s lunch to Jesus and Jesus gave thanks for it. As He gave thanks and distributed it to His disciples, the food multiplied. Thanksgiving and praise precede provision and increase.

  1. Use What You Have - Remember You Are The Blessed

Use your time, talents, and resources with the understanding that you are the blessed of the Lord. As you do what God has called you to do, He will enable you and help you to be supernaturally effective and efficient.

  1. Gather What Remains - Look For Waste & Ways To Be A Better Steward

After the miracle of multiplication, Jesus told His Apostles to gather what remains. Most of us wouldn’t have thought of that. There was a miracle in the fragments. When they gathered the fragments, they had twelve large baskets full. There was more provision than the people realized. This month, reflect on what you have, look for where you may be wasting, and discover how you can be a better steward of it.

There’s so much more I want to share with you, especially concerning the reflecting and shifting your mindset for this coming month. I share more details and further dive into these topics in today’s podcast devotional on YouTube, Apple Podcast or Spotify.
