Good Morning,

We all have to start somewhere. Maybe you are starting on a new goal or starting a new position at work. Maybe you are trying again and re-starting something in your life. It’s easy to get discouraged when we look at the circumstances of our start. However, a key to going the distance is not despising our start.

Notice what God told Zerubbabel in Zechariah 4.

Then he said to me, "This is what the LORD says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of Heaven's Armies. Nothing, not even a mighty mountain, will stand in Zerubbabel's way; it will become a level plain before him! And when Zerubbabel sets the final stone of the Temple in place, the people will shout: 'May God bless it! May God bless it!'" Then another message came to me from the LORD: "Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Heaven's Armies has sent me. Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand." (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.) (Zechariah 4:6-10 NLT)

Zerubbabel had an important, physical project to complete. There were many obstacles and challenges. God assured him that he would finish the project. However, Zerubbabel still had to get started.

Don’t despise your “small beginning.” Yes, there is a lot of work that you have to do. Don’t let that discourage you. When people build a building, most of them do not rejoice when the plumbing is installed. Yet, we all know how important the plumbing is!

You may be doing something that seems mundane, unimportant, and unexciting. However, if it is something God has assigned you to do, it’s more important than you know! He’s actually excited about you fulfilling this assignment. As it says in the passage above, He rejoices to see the work begin.

Today, stay hopeful, stay faithful, stay consistent, and keep moving forward. Don’t despise the circumstances regarding your start. Join the Lord in rejoicing because you know His plan will come to pass for your life.
