The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.

Psalm 23:1-3 (NKJV)

Today’s Devotional 📖

Good Morning,

This is going to be a great week for you! Last week, we went over how God wants to show you the paths you are to take in life. He really wants to lead you! This week, we will cover Scriptures that will help you grow in confidence that God will lead you in your everyday life. You don’t have to stumble through life! You can be led!

Psalm 23 is a famous psalm that describes God as our Shepherd. In John 10, Jesus identifies Himself as our Good Shepherd. What is one of the things shepherds do for their sheep? They lead them. Twice in the first three verses of this psalm, David shares that God will lead us.

Proverbs 3:5-7 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil.”

When we ask God for His wisdom and direction, it shows that we trust Him. When we do not ask God for His wisdom and direction, we are leaning on our own understanding. Your understanding is not stable enough to lean on. Actually, your understanding alone is flimsy. Imagine leaning on a post or bannister that was made out of rotten wood. Eventually, when you lean and put your weight on it, the post or bannister will collapse and you would fall. You thought it was strong enough to uphold you, but it wasn’t. In the same way, our own understanding seems solid enough to hold us, but in the long run it is not!

However, here is some good news! The Book of Proverbs shares that we can grow in knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. How do we do that? Through the reverential awe of the Lord, reading His Word, and growing in our relationship with Him. When we do these things, we are not leaning on our own understanding. Now, our understanding flows from Him.

This week, hold on to the promise of Proverbs 3:6. God shall direct your paths. Take time to pray and ask God for direction. Remember, prayer is not complete until you take time to listen. Pray and listen. God wants to lead you this week!
