Dried Up From The Roots

Welcome to Faith in the Morning! When people face a situation for a long time, sometimes they accept the situation as permanent. In today's devotional, Pastor Kerrick shares how your faith in God can cause the situation to dry up from its roots.

Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again." And His disciples heard [it]. ... 20 Now in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. 21 And Peter, remembering, said to Him, "Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away." 22 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God. 23 "For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be removed and be cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 "Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive [them], and you will have [them].

Today’s Devotional 📖

Good Morning,

Happy Monday! I hope you had a wonderful Holy Weekend. This is going to be a great week for you!

Last week, we journeyed through Mark 11. I want to continue in this chapter this week as we discuss how to handle chronic negative situations and circumstances. In the previous devotionals, we emphasized how the fig tree dried up from the roots. When Jesus spoke the Father’s words to the fig tree, it seemed like nothing happened at all. However, that didn’t move Jesus. Where did the words of Jesus go? To the root of the fig tree.

When you are living the faith lifestyle and speaking God’s Word to a situation, your faith and those words are going to the root of the problem. Don’t be moved just because it seems like nothing has happened yet. The words and your faith are dealing with the root issues.

What should you do while you wait for the situation to change? I believe part of the answer is shown in Psalm 37. It says, “Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. 2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. 3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring [it] to pass. 6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, And your justice as the noonday. 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret--[it] only [causes] harm. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.” (Psalm 37:1-9 NKJV)

I emboldened verse three for today’s focus. Our waiting is not passive. It’s active. While we wait on the situation to change, we keep our faith in God, we continue to do good, and we feed on God’s faithfulness.

I share more on feeding on God’s faithfulness in today’s podcast devotional. Your situation will change. It will dry up from the roots. Don’t give up. Keep living the lifestyle of faith. You can stream today’s podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcast or Spotify. Have a great day!
